SINGAPORE - Singapore is set to welcome more than 300 of the world's best silat types, as the eighteenth World Pencak Silat Championship commences on Thursday (Dec 13). 

Held at the Singapore Sports Hub's OCBC Arena, 29 competitors - including previous title holders, Asian Games and SEA Games medallists, for example, Sheik Farhan and Sheik Ferdous, children of Singapore's silat symbol Sheik Alauddin - will fly the banner for the Republic at the four-day rivalry. 

Group Singapore competitors were each given a Singapore hail by Sport Singapore boss Lim Teck Yin on Monday as they head into definite arrangements for the game's marquee occasion. 

This is the third time that Singapore is facilitating the title after the 1988 and 2004 versions. 

Section to the competition is free, with attempt outs of different hand to hand fighting like judo, taekwondo, wushu, aikido, silat and karate made accessible to onlookers - politeness of ActiveSG - all through the whole length of the opposition.
